  • CATTY Premieres New Song “Joyride” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based alt-pop singer-songwriter CATTY premiered a new song “Joyride” on BBC Radio 1's Future Pop with Jodie Bryant.

The song is her first music since the EP “Healing Out of Spite”, which was released last October.
“Healing Out Of Spite” was born from the wreckage of a last-minute Vegas wedding cancellation and the fallout that followed. “Joyride” captures what came next - a full-throttle plunge into the chaos of wanting someone you know might ruin you all over again.
It was written by Catrin Hopkins, Juliette Edward, and Nathan Challinor, who also produced the track.

CATTY said of the song, “Everything I write is unfortunately a little too true to life. I was in the studio with Nathan and Juliette (the co-writers) and I was telling them about this girl I'd met in the smoking area of a gig but I'd sworn off love for 14 months, hadn't even kissed anyone in a bar. I was done - love had chewed me up and spat me out but I couldn't stay away from her. So I tried what I think is called a situationship for all of two weeks (what the fuck is a situationship?) - I hated it. I've never been casual about anything and I would have followed her into the depths of hell. So Joyride is basically me saying, I'm all in, please don't hurt me.”
  • CATTY told Jodie Bryant about the song, “Something that you wouldn't know about the making of this song is I genuinely didn't think I was gonna write another song. I didn't think I was gonna write another good song. Because I really built my career off of breakups. And I wasn't having one, and I don't intend on having another one. I quite like this person. So I was like, What do I do? What do I do? I've really built my career off of just pure, just dragging people's Island back. Don't know if I'll write a good song again. And then that basically what happened that day is I was having this conversation with Nathan and Julie, who are the most incredible songwriters. They were like, 'Well, that's what the song's about.' And I was like, 'Yeah, okay.'”
