  • Bakers Eddy Premieres New Song “Dust On My Brain” on ABC triple j

  • Melbourne-based punk rock band Bakers Eddy, consisting of Ciarann Babbington (vocals), Jamie Gordon (drums), Alex Spagnolo (guitar) and Ian Spagnolo (bass), premiered a new song “Dust On My Brain” on ABC triple j Drive.

The song is the third single off of their upcoming EP “I'm Doing Better”, which is set to be released on June 6, 2025, following “Manners Street” and "UFO”.
It was written by Alex Spagnolo, Ciarann Babbington, Ian Spagnolo, and Jamie Gordon. Produced by Ciarann Babbington and Vincent McIntyre.
The EP is their first project in three years since the 2022 debut album “Love Boredom Bicycles”

The band frontman Ciarann Babbington said of the song, “Dust on my brain comes from a feeling of having the walls close in around you, and being trapped in self destructive cycles. I wasn't sleeping. I wasn't going out, seeing people. Just spinning myself out with negativity and stress and making bad coping decisions. I don't tend to write songs when my mental health is struggling, but this one kind of poured out when I was at my lowest and It ended being the catalyst for change which I'm very grateful. It made me excited to make music, so most of the EP was written because of 'Dust'.”
  • The band shared on social media, “This song is for anyone struggling or has struggled, gone through it, unable to pick yourself up. maybe you're like me and have some predictable self destructive tendencies. Its about those times when it's all a little much and it's nearly impossible to claw you're way out. But it's also a reminder to be kind on yourselves. Go through your stuff, that's ok, feel your feelings, fight your battles. We can't win em all but we can try be proud of those we do.”

They continued, “I wrote the words at low point. Kind of selfishly rattling off all the things I'd been feeling. I didn't enjoy the way it made me feel to start with. But it became therapeutic, like i was able to let go a little bit.
Then I wrote down 'I'm doing better and better is something' and it kind of flipped a switch for me. That I need to be better to myself and celebrate the small wins more. It's become a nice reminder. Kind of like a pat on the back, like 'you did something good'. And that's important.”

  • They added, “And I hope if you take anything away from this song it's that doing better (even if it doesn't feel like much) is enough and should be celebrated. It's small but it's SOMETHING and that something has the ability to snowball into more positive changes in my life or even just the way I feel on that day. And that's enough. Like fuck in the next 48 hours I'm probably going to wind up doomscrolling for 2 hours, but if I stop at 2.. well 2 is better than 3 so fuck yeah. Dumb example. but, like clean your room and have a coffee treat. Or maybe you got out of bed before 9am. We're all beautiful, messy, scared, confused freaks just trying to survive out here so we should be kind to ourselves.”
