Skye Newman Drops New Music Video for “Hairdresser”
London-based singer-songwriter Skye Newman has released her debut song “Hairdresser” along with a music video.
The song was released on March 28, 2025 and received its first play during on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists with Sian Eleri.
It was written by Boo, Luis Navidad, and Skye Newman. Produced by Boo and Luis Navidad.
Skye Newman said of the video, “I can't quite believe it, it's finally here!! A little girl had a dream and now I'm living it with my besties. This song is about female friendships and the ups and downs. Whether you relate in that way or just because you've felt the strain of any relationship, I hope you enjoy listening and watching. We had the best time filming and experiencing this together, it's simply just us being us in my safe space but that sums up me. I'm all a bout my people and I wouldn't change it for the world! Love you all for the support so far and I hope the video makes you love hairdresser even more.”- Currently, the song sits at 30th on the UK Singles Chart. Skye Newman told Sian Eleri about the reaction from fans, “Very overwhelmed with the love. And I honestly just couldn't be more grateful. Like, I've had so many messages just doing exactly what I made the song for, like, just that sense of feeling relatable to people, and that's the aim of what I was trying to do.”
She continued, “I've always just loved writing stories in general. I loved English in school, so creative writing was always my thing, and I think it just grew from that. I started writing at like 11-12 and it was just an outlet. So it made it easy for me to be able to deal with anything. I was dealing with in the right way, and been able to let it out in a good way and put something I mean to use, rather than just kind of feeling sad for myself.” -
Skye Newman will her second single “Family Matters” this Friday (May 16th).
She said of the new single, “So that song is very personal to me, but I also feel like so universal as well. I'm a cancer state girl. And I've seen and dealt with a lot of things at such a young age, which I think so many people coming from my lifestyle would understand. And again, like I said, it makes me happy and sad that people are late, because obviously sad, for the sake of people understand that feeling and have dealt with that pain and whatever they're about to get through, but happy that I can write something that makes them feel at ease that they're not alone in that issue. And I feel like I'm just gonna be a voice for so many people that probably felt that they didn't have one. And to know that you're not alone in anything. No matter what it is, no matter how crazy it may be. There is someone else in the world that relates.” - source : BBC Radio 1
