CMAT Premieres New Song “Take A Sexy Picture Of Me” on BBC Radio 1
Irish singer-songwriter CMAT premiered a new song “Take A Sexy Picture Of Me” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the second single off of her upcoming third studio album “Euro-Country”, which is set to be released on August 29, 2025.
The track was written and produced by CMAT, with production by Oli Deakin.
The accompanying music video was directed by Eilis Doherty.
CMAT said of the song, “With the internet, every woman is now in the public eye. And no matter who you are, or what you look like, somebody will take umbrage with the fact that you even exist, and there's no escaping it. 'Take a Sexy Picture of Me' was born out of that, because I held back for so long; not out of frustration or sadness for myself, because I AM in the public eye, but I realised it's actually like this for every woman. It's all women, all the time. That song is me calling out anyone who criticised my weight or how I looked... and it's one of the best songs I've ever made.”- CMAT told Jack Saunders about the song, “One thing you need to know about 'Take A Sexy Picture Of Me' is that I went on the BBC Radio One Big Weekend, and then everyone in the comment section fat shamed me, and then I wrote this song. Revenge.”
She continued, “I feel like the thing with this song was I wanted it to be, I wanted it to sound joyous and feel uplifting to sing, but to be a bit of a rallying cry and be like a support group. Like I wanted the song to act as a support group to everyone that goes through this kind of thing, because, it's completely out of my control. It was really annoying when that happened, because I was Just chilling. I was just wearing clothes, and everyone was very annoyed at me for that. And I had lots of friends that were also playing the BBC Radio One Big Weekend. That weekend and they didn't get anything, nothing happened to them. And I just and I didn't ever want to make a song that was like, Oh, I'm a bump star. Oh, so it's so hard to be famous, because that's annoying and it's not relatable. But this happens to everyone all the time. Everyone is constantly being judged on whether or not they're commercially or marketably attractive. And where they fall within that kind of really weird goal post. So I just was annoyed, and I wanted to make a song about being annoyed about it.” -
She added, “I mean what I mean by that line is that there's no amount of therapy that can cure what is actively in the world. Which is the kind of societal values of the patriarchy just being terrible. Like, I can't go to therapy and be like, Oh, it's all in your head. Don't worry about a queen. It does exist. It's awful. It's annoying.”
