Sophie Ellis-Bextor Announces New Album “Perimenopop”, Shares New Song “Taste”
British singer-songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor has announced her upcoming eighth studio album “Perimenopop” will be released on September 12, 2025 via Decca Records.
It is her first album in two years since the 2023 album “Hana”.
She will hold a one-night-only album launch show at KOKO in London on September 8, 2025.
From the album, she unveiled a new song “Taste” on May 9, 2025.
The song is the fourth single off of the album, following “Relentless Love”, “Freedom Of The Night”, and “Vertigo”.
It was written by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, MNEK, and Jon Shave, who also produced the track.
The track features British singer-songwriter MNEK on backing vocals.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor said of the song, “With ‘Taste’, I collaborated with MNEK and Jon Shave to write a playful, flirtatious pop song about chemistry. What can really make you want to be around someone is when their taste, what they like in life, is something you become addicted to. You want to experience all delights with them and share it with them as everything they introduce you to feels just right. All your senses feel alive and awake - like the full flavour of life is realised. Chef’s kiss.”- The new album comprises 12 tracks, produced by Baz Kaye, Chris Greatti, David Wrench, Duck Blackwell, James Greenwood, Jon Shave, Karma Kid, Richard “Biff” Stannard and Richard Jones.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor said of the album, “I’ve been singing for 30 years now - i know! - and throughout my career I’ve been lucky enough to happily play with many music genres, but my heart beats the fastest for pop. This album is a celebration of that relationship. In fact, it’s a celebration of lots of things, including being the age I’m at and still having so many adventures and so much fun!”
She continued, “I turned 46 last month and I’m enjoying getting older. I’m feeling more excited than ever about the music I’m making, and believe me when I say that is a GREAT feeling! It’s thanks to many things, not least the women that went before me and the women who will follow. I’ve also found myself surrounded by so many incredible women and been talking to many for my podcast. Plus finally, and crucially, I’ve been able to work with so many talented folk. Old friends and new, it’s been glorious.” -
She added, “‘Perimenopop’ is an album that’s intention is to bring you joy; it’s fun, it’s bold and it’s playful. I had this incredible feeling while I was writing it, that I didn’t have to try to be anyone else. I could just head towards what excited me and what excited those I was working with. That feeling is in part down to you and your support. Honestly, it’s the best gift you can give me when I’m creating new music. Thank you so much.” - source : Apple Music
