Mackenzie Premieres New Song “State I'm In” on BBC Radio 1
London-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Mackenzie premiered a new song “State I'm In” on BBC Radio 1's Future Pop with Jodie Bryant.
The song is the first taste of her upcoming debut EP “Drama Queen”, which is expected to be released in 2025.
The track showcases her characteristic emotionally charged storytelling and infectious melody, blending elements of pop and rock to create a strong sense of 2000s nostalgia.
It was written by Mackenzie Burke, Nadia Sheikh, and Rowan Davies. Produced by Michael Smith.
She recorded the track at Metropolis Studios in London.
Mackenzie said of the song, “This song is all about the fear of not achieving and while it's a reflection of how I felt at the time in my journey, I hope it can help you wherever you're at in yours. This one is for anyone who feels like the clock is ticking and the steaks are too high... but refuses to give up anyway.”- She continued, “This song means so much to me. It's my deepest fear written down and is the song that made it clear to me what this next chapter of music was going to be. Life is messy and scary and exhilarating and that is what I felt like at the time this song was written.”
She added, “Huge thank you to Nadia Sheikh and Rowan Davies for inviting me to write in the Spotify UK studio at Metropolis Studios and for writing this one with me (oh and for listening to me ramble for hours)”. - source : BBC Radio 1
