  • Gatlin Returns with New Song “If She Was A Boy”

  • Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Gatlin returned with a new song “If She Was A Boy” on May 14, 2025.

The song is her first music in a year since the EP “Too Much Woman / The Reason”, which was released last March.
Also, it is first release under her new label Dualtone Records.
The song will appear on her upcoming debut album, which is set to be released later this year.
This time, Gatlin worked with London-based producer Chloe Kraemer and Swedish-British singer-songwriter Amanda Cy on the track. Gatlin said, “It's not often I've gotten to make a track with all women.”
The accompanying music video was directed by Jacq Justice.
On the track, inspired by a line that she recently found in an old diary, Gatlin reminisces on a crush from early in her coming out journey.
  • Gatlin said of the song, “I had misplaced my current journal, and the only one I had on hand that had blank pages was from years prior. And as I was flipping through the old pages, I found something I'd written about my first time having a crush on a girl.”

She continued, “I wanted this track to be the first single because there's a naivete and lightness to it while still being freaking sad as heck. It feels like the one that's closest to the old Gatlin, so was a nice little bridge to usher in the new era of music.”

  • Gatlin shared on social media, “I wrote her in London with Chloe Kraemer & Amanda Cy. I had packed an old journal while on a writing trip in London and the day before was flipping through old pages. I was reading about my first crush on a girl from back in 2018 and was struck by how far I've come. I brought it in the next day to the girls and we had a blast bringing this song to life.”
