Ruth Lyon Releases New Song “Perfect”
Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Ruth Lyon released a new song “Perfect” on May 7, 2025.
The song is taken from her upcoming debut album “Poems & Non-Fiction”, which is set to be released on June 13, 2025.
The track is accompanied by the Sel Maclean-directed music video. Sel Maclean also directed her previous video for “Books”, which was released back in March.
The song is the album's most pop-adjacent moment: a sharp indie-pop that critiques the cult of curated living.
It was written by Ruth Lyon and produced by John Parish.
Ruth Lyon said of the song, “It's about how modern life traps us in a toxic pursuit of perfection – we're all celebrities of our own life, worshipping at the altar of our egos. It's kind of infected us all, I think. The perfect mother, the perfect wife, the perfect health and a perfect body flaunting perfect hair/skin/tits/bum blah blah blah.”- The debut album comprises 11 songs. Forged by her experiences as a disabled woman and a life-long sense of otherness, she explores the beautiful mess of existence.
Ruth Lyon said of the album, “I have been writing this collection of songs my whole life in different ways - through people I've loved, late night conversations, strange beautiful places I've passed through and the absurd chaos of it all. Breaking and healing and doing it all again - there is so much life in this album.”
She added, “I have surprised myself with the raw honesty in these songs and I hope these stories inspire healing and growth.” -
