  • Lights Releases New Album “A6”

  • Canadian electro-pop singer-songwriter Lights released her sixth studio album “A6” on May 2, 2025.

It is her first album in three years since the 2022 album “Pep”.
The album comprises 13 tracks, written and produced by Lights.
She recorded the album in British Columbia, Los Angeles and Berlin.

Lights said of the album, “My sixth album is a result of the full range of experiences that have made my life what it is this far: past lessons, rock bottoms, grief and loss, personal growth in a world that wants you to stay the same, the bliss of sensuality, and the recklessness of love. It's everything you'd write down in a little A6-sized journal because saying it out loud is often somehow harder.”

She continued, “In this landscape I realize it's a flex to make it this far doing what you love - not just in this industry, but in life. I've given most of my years to the creation of something beautiful and affirming and transportive. It's my humble offering to the world. Over years of self-reflection through this art form, l've found that happiness and peace and actualization comes from the tumult and depth and pain and bliss of every moment that we are given. It's remembering where we came from and never giving up on what we hope for.”
  • She added “I also pulled from the full range of music that gets me: from the midwest emo that inspired me as a teen and twenty-something, to the new wave sounds that showed me a painful idea can still wear happy clothes, and the soundscapey synth wave that spirits me away when my mind is drowning. I also produced A6 entirely on my own in my little neon studio in the cool forest of BC, because that's peaceful and that's home, drums and guitar in LA with Brodie Tavares and Stefan Michel because that's my band and we've been friends since high school and the rest in Berlin by a noisy balcony in an airbnb, because I fucking wanted to. And therein lies the rub: life is short. Live in it, do what you dream of, feel it all, and don't forget to look back and be proud of where you landed. Drink water, get sleep, share music, play games and live freeee. I hope you enjoy A6 just as much as my experience of giving it to you”

  • Lights explained about some tracks for the album.

    “DAMAGE”
“In the last few years I've found myself exploring which parts of my identity are really me, and which are a response to the way we've all been conditioned by our present circumstances, whether it's shaped by the incredible pressures of social media, or by modern expectations. Sometimes I step back and think 'I swear this isn't me!'”

    “ALIVE AGAIN”
“ALIVE AGAIN is kind of a 'last hope' anthem. It's about the lows we hit and the demons we carry, and how, from that vantage point, we can sometimes gain clarity about what we want from our lives and the people around us. We all have demons, so we might as well learn to live with them. Or - as the music video depicts - even learn to hang with them (along with a plethora of horror movie references). Much like a lot of my new music, I was able to capture a hyper-melodic, fast-paced new wave feel in the music that provides a nostalgic twist to the whole experience.”

“SURFACE TENSION” and “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES”
“I couldn't decide which song to release because I feel like both appeal to such different sides of the fan base. I had the idea to release both simultaneously and let the fans decide where they stand. Was sooo cool to have this crazy duelling videos idea one day and then within a few weeks be standing in a studio making it happen. To be honest I didn't know it was even going to work until I watched my rough first edits side by side. And I was SHOCKED. hope you love the experience as much as I did making them. I hope you remember that ideas are only ideas until you take them out of your head and into the real world, and you won't know til then what you're capable of.”

    “CLINGY”
“The track is inspired by the uncomfortable feeling of suddenly finding yourself getting clingy with someone. You could be the most confident person when that feeling creeps up out of nowhere. It’s a tongue in cheek anthem for the clingy people out there who aren’t usually clingy. As a feeling it is a lot to unpack-about insecurity and communication and challenging ideas of ownership in a relationship-but in a fun bassy banger. I think there is a layer of sexiness to this song, in allowing yourself to admit feelings that are typically associated with weakness. Since the song is about the duality of feeling confident but also feeling clingy sometimes, I wanted the production to follow suit. Half the song is a guitar forward, spacious banger, the other half feels like a heavy and intimate dance break.”
