Ernest Aines Releases New Song “Just Once”
Australian alt-folk singer-songwriter Ernest Aines released his brand new song “Just Once” on May 23, 2025.
The song is the first single of 2025 and follows “Don't Mind Me”, which was released last July.
The track is about unseen love - the ache of standing in the background while someone you love is mesmerised by their own reflection. It captures the quiet desperation of wanting to be chosen, just once.
Lyrically, the track explores emotional distance with raw vulnerability-the longing for deep connection and the frustration of bearing the weight of love alone. It's a slow-burning confession of invisible devotion and unreciprocated hope.
Ernest Aines sings, “You're an anaesthetist / what a waste without love if I don't feel it / I can't do it all by myself.”- Sonically, its beautiful, slow melody and 12-string guitar draw you into a fantastical world.
The track was written by Joshua Romig. Produced by Ernest Aines and Nathan Zammit.
Ernest Aines said of the song, “Never there, not even just once, this is you me and us. To never being stepped on again.” -
