  • MØ Releases New Album “Plæygirl”

  • Danish singer-songwriter released her fourth studio album “Plæygirl” on May 16, 2025.

It is her first album in three years since the 2022 album “Motordrome”.
The album comprises 12 tracks, featuring a guest appearance from Irish singer-songwriter Biig Piig, including a cover of Swedish DJ Avicii's “Wake Me Up”.
Produced by Nick Sylvester, Finn Keane, Ronni Vindahl, SLY, and Elliot Kozel.
MØ recorded the album between Copenhagen and Los Angeles over 2022-2024.

MØ said of the album, “I just wanted to make music that was true to me - music that feels free. I feel like I'm standing in front of a new era.”

She continued, “I think the best thing about it was actually that the executive producer of this album, his name is Nick Sylvester. He would come to Copenhagen, where I live. And we would just have such a nice and focused, wholesome time in the studio. Like a process where you really get to go deep, like both on the lyrics, but also on productions. And again, I think that's also why it has become this kind of very organic collection of just my life and my thoughts.”
  • She added, “I think the one story that sort of is the playgirl world is that thing of like being yourself and like embracing imperfection, like my messy nature, but also my joyful nature. So it's really, I think that thing about not overthinking it, but just doing it, just saying it. And I think that is the thing that has been a process and like a story in my life. Is that thing of like, just finding myself like, embracing who I am.”

MØ said of the album title, “The meaning behind this album or the title, is really this thing of trying to find joy and playfulness and to have fun while you do it. And it sounds so banal in a way, but I think many years I was so trapped in like, overthinking, Oh, is this perfect or whatever? But with this one, it's just like, No, I want to be in the room and actually try and have fun. Of course, it's about expressing yourself, the support for me to express myself. But I think it's so important to try and find the joy, like you literally don't know what's coming like in these times, it's so crazy. And it's just, you got to live your truth and be in the room.”

  • MØ shared on social media, “'Plæygirl' is out and I am happy and light as a feather. When I write albums, the idea that someday it will be out and that people will be listening to it feels unreal and far faraway. But then when it happens, it's like making out with your crush for the first time, A literal dream come true! 'Plæygirl' has a special place in my heart and I thank everyone for listening and supporting. Thank you Nick Sylvester for your incredible production work and for helping me develop as a songwriter and artist. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this album.”

MØ explained about some tracks for the album.

    “Who Said”
“[It's] about my fear of commitment and wanting to hold onto my non-committal nature. By the end, I come to terms with the reality that I can't ignore change. It's about confronting the truth and letting go of the 'delulu' mindset.”

    “SWEET” featuring Biig Piig
“'Sweet' is a fun and sweet song wrapped into a mean bass synth riff (thanks to Nick Sylvester). The line 'I don't go to clubs/ I go to comic cons and thrash metal shows' is this album's battle cry. It speaks to the feeling of kinda being an outsider, but being proud of, and embracing that outsider status as part of who I am. I don't enjoy going to clubs! I like playing The Sims and going to punk and metal shows and spending time with my friends and family. I think a lot of people can relate to that.”

    “Keep Møving”
“'Keep Møving' is an ironic take on my endless to-do list. It's about the feeling of unravelling under the weight of everybody's expectations (including my own) whilst also secretly dreaming of being set free from this constantly shifting, absolutely mental Western world. Nick Sylvester, Elliot Kozel, and Harrison Smith (The Dare) worked on the production, and I think it perfectly captures the urgency, the chaos, and the undeniable fun we had making it. I have never enjoyed recording ad-libs as much as I did screaming “BUAH!” in the chorus - definitely my favourite ad-libs ever. The lyrics come from a real place of frustration, but writing and performing this one heals me too.”

    “Lose Yourself”
“'Lose Yourself' is about self-preservation and self-joy - about letting go in a healthy way, without losing each other in the process. I've found that staying connected to your community is one of the most vital ingredients for a healthy spirit. This song is a reminder to be vulnerable, take care of yourself, and care for those you love. I first wrote it in 2022 with my longtime collaborator Stint, then revisited it with my drummer and friend School of X. When Nick Sylvester came on to produce the final version, we were inspired by Joy Division — and a killer lunch plate from a local spot called Tekno in Nørrebro. Ronni Vindahl helped with finalizing the production, Micah Jasper added some cool elements, and Clementine Douglas helped us land the perfect flow in the songwriting.”

    “Heartbreak”
“I think this is a significant thing to know, is that this song is actually my favorite song to play live. That doesn't say a little, I think. I do think this is sort of like the ending piece to the album. It is also like almost the last song on the album. It's sort of this kind of like you go through the journey and then in the end, it's like, just give me all. Like as you say, like that euphoric like the letting go, I guess, like getting in. Totally it's a bigger universal feeling. This song, for me, symbolizes. Like that moment of like, instead of being in your head, just being present, being like, I don't care what people think, I'm just gonna be myself.”

    “Wake Me Up”
“Avicii's music and life story has touched me deeply over the years. In 2012 in New York City at a weird rooftop party and to the tones of 'Levels', something about the unapologetic, almost aggressive energy mixed with a haunting emotional depth made me make up my mind to follow my dreams of becoming an artist, whatever the cost. I was working with some of his friends out of his house in LA, in the days leading up to his passing. I remember having felt so honoured to be working out of this Scandinavian legend's studio. He changed music, and he changed me. Forever I will be remembered, enchanted and inspired by angel Avicii.”
