  • EEVAH Releases New EP “I Didn't See It Coming”

  • British alt-rock band EEVAH, consisting of Nicole Hope Smith (vocals/bass), Richard McNamara (guitar) and Fay Clayton (drums), released their sophomore EP “I Didn't See It Coming” on May 22, 2025.

It is their first project in a year since the debut EP “Simplify Life”, which was released last May.
The EP comprises 4 tracks, which were written by Nicole Hope Smith and Richard McNamara, and produced by Richard McNamara.
The collection is their most personal and truthful work. Especially, “I Still Think Of You” was written in a cloud of grief following the passing of the band lead singer Nicole Hope Smith's grandmother.
The band released a new music video for the title track “I Didn't See It Coming” directed by Simon Walker on June 1, 2025.
  • The band guitarist Richard McNamara is known as a member of British rock band Embrace.

Richard McNamara said of the EP, “For such a long time in EEVAH, I guess I've kind of shrunk away from the whole Embrace connection, mainly because I want to do something that's uniquely EEVAH. Then one evening I was skipping through YouTube when I came across an interview with Birdy where she said that Ryan Tedder, her producer and co-writer, had suggested approaching the guitar part on their track Wings a bit like Gravity by Embrace. Then two videos later, I caught a Holly Humberstone track that was kinda coming from the same 'Embrace-y' place, at least beat wise, and it just hit me - if anyone's allowed to sound like Embrace, it's me”

  • Richard McNamara explained some tracks for the EP.

    “I Didn't See It Coming”
“The song itself is about being suddenly rejected and trying to make sense of what happened. Didn’t I do everything right, wasn’t I there when I needed to be? I’m trying to find the words and you don’t even want a conversation. In the end it makes you question yourself, who am I to let this happen, where was I? What was I doing? And all you can come up with is, ‘I was blind sided, I didn’t see it coming.’”

    “Lullaby”
“I had the intro and was searching for the hooks and ideas to complete the song, and as soon as I had the line 'it's just a lullaby to me worth singing' I knew what it would be about - night terrors! At night there are times when I genuinely feel out of control of what I'm thinking or feeling and it scares the shit out of me. Like when you wade in water and the sand disappears from under you, and it gets suddenly deeper and darker and colder and in that moment you realise you're literally out of your depth, out of control and the panic sets in. Sometimes I have to get up and go make myself a drink just to snap out of it, then the birds start singing and it's the most beautifully humbling and bitter sweet sound, and like a lullaby it sends me off to sleep. The world is thankfully still spinning and everything carries on as normal.”

    “I Still Think Of You”
“Nicole was trying to connect with memories of conflict surrounding a family illness, guilt in the face of death and just wanting it all to be over. Sonically, I was trying to craft some post-rock apocalypse out of opposing guitar and piano and drum rhythms. It's a conflict and It sounds huge but somehow incomplete... until Nicole comes in with a beautiful lament about memories of carrying her Gran coming out of the hospital.”
