  • Joy Crookes Premieres New Song “Perfect Crime” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based singer-songwriter Joy Crookes premiered a new song “Perfect Crime” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is the fifth single off of her upcoming sophomore album ”Juniper”, which is set to be released on September 26, 2025.
It was written by Jonny Lattimer, Joy Crookes, and Ntuthuko Nhlumayo. Produced by Joy Crookes and Harvey Grant.

Joy Crookes said of the song, “Perfect Crime is written about that scary bit of time just before you go back into the dating world…it’s being a couple of pints deep at the pub with your mate and making the hinge profile. That’s the essence of this song.”
  • Joy Crookes told Jack Saunders about the song, “I basically produced this record, and Harvey Grant co-produced it. And he was very sweet, and was like, 'You need to get on the laptop. You need to do this. You know you can.' And I lost a lot of confidence in making this record with my own production and him and Blue May. Blue May, very much like, 'Just get on the laptop, how to do this.' And I was like, okay, cool. And I did, and we got this out of it. I had to go through like, 400 stems, and I was just muting some of the hardest stems that I like, from Abbey Road and stuff. And Harvey was just laughing at me in the back being like, 'I've never watched someone mute the most expensive stems I've ever seen.' But I wanted it to sound kind of Lo-Fi and janky and coy for lack of better words, and a bit like me on a first date, to be honest, janky and coy.”

  • The new album comprises 12 tracks, featuring guest appearances from Kano and Vince Staples, produced by Joy Crookes, Harvey Grant, and Blue May.
It is her first album in four years since the 2021 album “Skin”.

Joy Crookes said of the album, “To try and explain this album has proved way more difficult than I thought and I think that’s essentially because this album narrates an extremely difficult time in my life. To say it was full of ups and downs would be an understatement, this was a violently turbulent time full of moments of total hedonism where I felt extremely alive but also sadly full of periods of pretty crushing despair and extreme anxiety. Ultimately I had to confront darkness, drag myself out of the trenches and work so hard to get to a better place. it was painful and at moments seemingly impossible but I did it, I’m here and once again music was my saviour. The silver lining to a really dark cloud is ‘Juniper’, a body of work that I love and am very proud of. I’m so grateful for my relationships, my connection with music, my collaborators and my mates. I found a lifeline and solace in all these things. I can’t wait to set this album free into the world.”
