  • Barry Can't Swim Premieres New Song “Always Get Through To You” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based producer Joshua Mannie, aka Barry Can't Swim premiered a new song “Always Get Through To You” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is the sixth single off of his upcoming debut album “When Will We Land?”, which is set to be released on October 20, 2023.
The track was written by Joshua Mainnie, Oli Bayston, and Rana Ali. Produced by Joshua Mainnie and Oli Bayston.
Joshua Mannie told Clara Amfo about the song, “Actually, I've been sitting on a sample for a long time. And it sounds like a sample in this tune. But what happened was the base of the sample was sitting on the day that I delivered the tune. And Loyle Carner released the tune, but had the exact same sample. And I was like, 'Okay', so we have to rethink that. So we reached out to this amazing choir Rose Gold Choir, reboot our top line, got them involved, went into the studio recorded something live, and honestly, I was even happier with it. It was like an accident that ended up just working in our favor. So it was the first time ever kind of actually really getting in and working with a client or anything like that, but it was really special about music.”
  • He continued, “Also intended to sound like it's live recording we wanted it to sound like a sample, because electronic music, so we got in record them and then like kind of post audio into one file and put the effects on the one like master, so just intentionally have filters on and stuff or like boring production stuff or basically tried to make it sound like it was a sample, even though it wasn't. So it's just a so fun like thinking back, because it was done back in February and honestly, they just brought so much energy. They were amazing. And it was just the funnest day getting in the studio and doing something like that it was working. I'm just kind of reflecting on I'm enjoying the memory right here as I'm telling you.”

  • The debut album comprises 11-track, featuring guest appearances from somedeadbeat, Falle Nioke, Blackboxx, and just lil.
Joshua Mannie said of the album, “I'm so excited and just kind of like, try not to kind of think too much about it, because it's like, feels like such a big deal to me. I don't know, I'm just sort of prepared for it to be like this amazing film, but also like the data so it's gonna feel kind of weird. I look like I've kind of lost some of its I've just been thinking about it so much, and then it's gonna kind of be done and it's like, okay, it's out now, and that's gonna be kind of surreal feeling, so I'm preparing myself for that too, but I'm just buzzing to have it out. It's like a really special moment for me personally as a milestone. So I'm super excited.”
