London-based singer-songwriter Rita Ekwere, aka RAY BLK has dropped a new music video for “Empress”. The video was premiered exclusively on i-D.

The tarck received its first play during Apple Beats 1. The video was directed by Geej Ower, featuring Apple Music DJ Julie Adenuga and BBC Radio 1 co-presenter Maya Jama.
"I learned my worth after a breakup in 2015 when I stopped dating this guy who really didn’t respect me or treat me right." she told i-D about the song. "I had to sit down and ask myself why I let that happen for so long and take responsibility for allowing somebody to make me feel less than I am. You’ll only get what you allow and I made a decision to never let anybody treat me like trash, because I know I'm treasure."- The debut album “Empress” is set to be released in 2018.
"When I started making this project, I was just in a space where I reached a peak of self-acceptance and self-love," RAY BLK told NPR during an interview last month. "There's a lot of, you know, media telling women not to love themselves, whether that's with advertisement or whether that's with Instagram. There's a lot pulling women down and making them feel not good enough. And I just wanted to uplift people." - source : i-D
