John Orpheus Releases New Song “IG”
- Trini-Canadian hip hop singer-songwriter John Orpheus will release his companion album “SAGA KING” on July 30, 2021.
From the album, he unveiled a new song “IG” along with a music video.
It was written by John Orpheus, Mike Schlosser, Bryant Didier and Adam Bowman. Produced by Mike Schlosser.
The video was directed by Patrick Hodgson.
“It's a love letter about feeling your authentic self and being radically you. It's time to begin again with no excuses and no shortcuts,” John Orpheus said of the song. “Don't let anyone tell you how to live! The title is a call out to the attention-seeking game of social media, but the song itself is about giving yourself all the love you deserve without asking permission.
I was thinking about my dad when I wrote this song, driving a Cadillac Sedan DeVille, forest green, super tinted windows. He was a hustler, and as a kid I felt like he had this superpower stunt mode.”
- Back in January, he published his memoir “SAGA BOY” via Penguin Random House Canada.
Both the book and the new album are based on the same themes.
He said, “SAGA BOY is the journey of the boy I used to be while SAGA KING is the celebration of the man I've become. A dance party that's confident in its skin, you'll hear a seamless voice of afrobeat, hip hop, dancehall, soca, dance, pop and rock. Sing and dance along with hands up, eyes closed, embracing the moment.”
