Back in March, American singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and British singer-songwriter ZAYN teamed up for the new song “To Begin Again”.
This marks the first collaboration between Ingrid Michaelson and ZAYN. The track was written by Sarah Aarons, Ingrid Michaelson and ZAYN.
On April 16th, both artists premiered a new music video for the song directed by Marykate Schneider, who filmed in New York following everyday people in their daily lives.
“I wanted to create a love letter to my city. To celebrate the hope that is slowly coming back to the people of New York. And to remind people all over the world that we are stronger when we work and rejoice together,” Ingrid Michaelson said of the song. “I wrote To Begin Again the night that Biden won. There was so much joy in my Brooklyn neighborhood. Pots and pans being banged out of windows. Horns and whistles. Clapping. Singing! The collective sigh of relief resonated with me in such a way that I had to get it out musically. I sat at the piano and wrote most of the song right there in 15 minutes. Sarah Aarons helped me finish it, most notably writing the second verse. And when she sang it on the demo, I knew the song had to be a duet not just a solo song for me. ZAYN said, “When Ingrid sent me the song, I felt exactly the same way she did. The song is talking about the way life is right now, a nod towards maybe it will get better soon and we'll get a chance to start again and begin again as a whole collective human race.
