  • Bastille Announces New Album “&” (Ampersand), Shares Four New Songs as Part One

  • British pop rock band Bastille, consisting of Dan Smith (vocals/keyboards), Kyle Simmons (keyboards), Will Farquarson (guitar), Chris 'Woody' Wood (drums), has announced their new album “&” (Ampersand) will be released on October 25, 2024.

The album consists of four parts as a collection of story songs that intertwine the lives of remarkable figures from throughout history, including poets, artists, anthropologists, scientists, and figures from religion and myth.
From the album, the band released four new songs as part one, “Intros & Narrators”, “Eve & Paradise Lost”, “Seasons & Narcissus”, and “Emily & Her Penthouse In The Sky” on July 26, 2024.
“Intros & Narrators”, “Eve & Paradise Lost”, “Seasons & Narcissus” were written by Dan Smith.
“Emily & Her Penthouse In The Sky” was written by Dan Priddy, Dan Smith, and Mark Crew.
Four songs were produced by Dan Smith and Mark Crew.

The band frontman Dan Smith said of the album, “I've always loved writing story songs and using tales of other people as a way into making music and talking about my experiences in life. Over the last few years, I've been working on a whole load of songs about people who I think are fascinating and whose lives really spoke to me.”
  • He continued, “Then towards the end of last year, me and the guys decided to take a bit of a brake from touring. But after settling back into life at home I found myself picking these story songs back up. So in January, I made a plan with Mark and friends to go away somewhere and record it. I didn't really know what project of mine was but I knew I wanted to go about making it in a new and different way. I wrote these songs at my kitchen table. So they needed to sound homemade and intimate and warm. I reached out to loads of amazing creative people, musicians, artists and a whole lot more inviting them all to be part of this storytelling project.”
  • He added, “For me, it's been the most brilliant, fun and chilled process, while also trying to do justice to the lives and stories of these amazing people. And now I'm really excited to start sharing it with you. I wasn't setting out to make this a Bastille album, but it feels like it's very much within our world. So we decided to call it, Bastille presents 'Ampersand'.”
