American singer-songwriter Safiyah Hernandez released a new song “Hummingbird” along with a music video on September 7, 2022.
The song is her third single following “9pm” and “Skateboard”.
It was written by afiyah Hernandez and produced by Stari. The accompanying video was directed by Hana Siddiqi.
Written the day her great-grandmother, Hamida Begum-Sardar, passed away, “Hummingbird” is an emotional reflection on family connection and heartbreaking loss.
Safiyah Hernandez shared on social media, “'Hummingbird' was written the day my great grandmother, Hamida Begum-Sardar passed away. The last several years of her life she suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s, which is referenced in the music video. Before then, she was a really strong, loving, humble, beautiful human. She experienced the partition, then from Pakistan, moved to London where she lived the rest of her life as an immigrant mother of three. I have loads of gorgeous photographs of her with my grandma and mama that really make me proud of the females in my family who have raised me.”
She adeede, “When my grandmother found out about her mother’s death, a hummingbird came up to the window and it hovered there for a while, staring at her. She associated it with my great grandmother and that’s what’s behind the name of the song.”- source : Apple Music
