Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ Richard Hawley Releases New Song “Prism In Jeans”
British singer-songwriter Richard Hawley will release his tenth studio album “In This City They Call You Love” on May 31, 2024 via BMG.
The album is his first LP in five years since the 2019 album Further and comprises a 12-track.
He recorded 86 songs for the album, and finally chose 12 songs.
The album’s title is taken from the fifth track “People”.
Richard Hawley said of the album, “I've made three albums where I had the title before I'd even begun to record, where I had an agenda. One was Truelove's Gutter. Another was Standing At The Sky's Edge when I wanted to turn everything up and make the music a lot more aggressive, and then this one. I wanted it to be multi-coloured in a way. focusing on the voice and what voices can do together. I deliberately only played a handful of guitar solos to keep it focused on voices, the song and space.”- From the album, he released the third single called “Prism In Jeans” on May 2, 2024.
The Graham Wrench-directed music video for the song was dropped on May 8, 2024.
The video was filmed in Sheffield city centre in the shadow of the Moore Street Substation and features students from Sheffield's Bailey-Cox Dance Academy.
The track was written and produced by Richard Hawley, with production by Colin Elliot and Mark Sheridan.
Richard Hawley said of the song, “I love the music of that pre-Beatle era. The Tornadoes Telstar and The Shadows. That kind of far-off netherworld. I've always loved that time whether it's cool to or not. As a song, it's about someone who is like a rainbow in a very confined space. A Prism in Jeans.” -
