  • MOTHICA Releases New Song “Curiosity Killed The Moth”

  • Last month, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter MOTHICA announced that her third studio album “Kissing Death” will be released on August 23, 2024 via her own label Heavy Heart Records and Rise Records.

From the album, she unveiled the second single called “Curiosity Killed The Moth” on April 17, 2024, following “Doomed”.
The track was written by Alexandra Veltri, McKenzie Ellis, and David Burris who also produced it.
The accompanying music video was directed by Samuel Halleen.

MOTHICA said of the song, “I thought of the phrase 'curiosity killed the cat' on the way to a session with David Burris and Alexandra Veltri, and we twisted it to be about a moth. Like a moth to a flame. Icarus flying too close to the sun. I've always wanted to write a song about moths, but of course, it being my namesake that felt like a daunting task. I wanted every song to feel like it was from a soundtrack since I knew I was going to do a music video for every song, and so it turned into this dark cinematic feeling that I really love.”
  • The new album is her first LP in two years since the 2022 album “Nocturnal”.
The album is a visual album that tells an immersive story across 12 tracks and their accompanying music videos which weave into each other.
She said of the album “I decided to make Death a love interest in a dark rom-com-style tale. Throughout the visuals, I'm seen in a therapist's office explaining this complicated relationship as if describing a scorned lover. The music videos will be like 'flashbacks' of what I'm telling my therapist.”
  • She shared about the album with the trailer for the third album, “The trailer for my third album, an audio visual experience of twelve songs and twelve music videos starting with the first chapter, Doomed, on March 27. This is a twisted, surreal version of my origin story. This is for the younger version of me who romanticized death for a decade, and the lasting impact it had on me as I searched for an easier, softer way to exist.”
She continued, “From a rebellious teenager in suburban Oklahoma, to smoke filled dive bars, sleepless nights, addiction, neon lit alleyways, sobriety, desert roads, a toxic love affair, and countless hours of therapy… Oh, and did I mention dancing cowboys? I unfold the twelve chapters of my upcoming album, Kissing Death.”
