AKICITA Releases New Song “Monster”
Los Angeles-based indie-pop singer-songwriter AKICITA released a new song “Monster” on August 3, 2023.
The song is the third single off of her upcoming debut EP “Future in Disguise”, following “You Already Know” and “Liquor”.
It was written by Julia Peralta, and Ben Wylen who also produced the track.
The track delves deep into the complexities of a past relationship, and expresses the pain of a love that wasn't reciprocated with reflection on her past struggles with alcoholism.
AKICITA said of the song, “I love a good villain origin story. I wrote monster about feeling like a monster or being like the villain was something that I was being labeled as portrayed as seen as in all of these different situations. While I was struggling with my alcoholism, and a breakup and just figuring out who I was, and just all of that. And the way that people were treating me at the time, discarding me dismissing my feelings, because I was struggling and how it looked on the outside. I was like, is this what it takes to be a monster because I can be back like if that's maybe I should try to be a monster instead, since that's what everyone sees me as anyway.”
