Vancouver-based experimental metal band Berried Alive, consisting of Charles Caswell and Kaylie Caswell, released their sixth studio album “Our Own Light” on September 9, 2022.
The album comprises 15-track and emphasizes the importance of mental health and aim is reassuring anyone struggling that they are not alone.
The band said of the album, “We have been looking forward to releasing this album since 2017. It's 15 tracks long, and is one of the most thoughtfully crafted, and genuine pieces of music we've ever released. 'Our Own Light' explores a lot of different angles of the personal journey we've been on over the last several years, and pushes through the feelings on the surface, to a much more vulnerable yet healing place.”
They continued, “'Our Own Light' is a study in opposing emotions, but the summary of all these emotions is that Berried Alive really is our own light. We've faced a lot of struggles to get to where we are now, and they've definitely left scars on our emotions, but nothing else could ever bring us so much freedom or happiness and we do recognize that and appreciate it.”
The band added, “These songs represent a lot of different styles and genres of music. We personally listen to a lot of different styles of music, and we like different things about each style, so we've incorporated some elements of our favorite styles into one sound.”- The duo shared on social media, “The moment has finally arrived—Our Own Light is finally out of our home and into the world. These songs are deeply personal and yet, we hope, universally relatable. We hope that you enjoy as you listen, nod your head along, feel inspired to get up and go make something, and most importantly know that you aren't alone in your feelings and your struggles. There is a lot to be said about personal struggles and mental health in these songs and we want to make it more comfortable to admit that we're not okay sometimes. If Our Own Light normalizes these types of discussions in any way then it's done it's job. Most of all, we hope you have fun while you listen and enjoy. We love you all berry much! 🍓❤️🍓❤️”
