  • Ashnikko Premieres Two New Songs “Panic Attacks In Paradise” & “Maggots” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based American-born singer-songwriter Ashton Nicole Casey, aka Ashnikko premiered two new songs “Panic Attacks In Paradise” and “Maggots” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

Two songs are her first music since her debut mixtape “Demidevil” released back in January.
Before the release of the song, Ashnikko shared on social media, “'Panic Attacks in Paradise' and 'Maggots' were both written when I was in a very low place. A nasty festering place where brushing my teeth and getting out of bed was an accomplishment. The win of the day! I wrote 'P.A.I.P.' when I was annoying the fuck out of myself. I was fine, physically healthy, safe, etc. I was in so much pain but I couldn't put a finger on it. I was insufferable. So obsessed with my own hurt. I was leading it around with me like a rabid dog, letting it bite anyone that I came into contact with. Where 'P.A.I.P.' is soft and forlorn, 'Maggots' is pure rage, an electric forcefield around myself darling people to come close. I decide that being a little villainous is a better lifestyle choice. I'd rather be a right bitch than let people take advantage of my kindness. I will take every parasite burrowing its way into my flesh and flatten it under my boots.”

“Panic Attacks In Paradise” was released by Ashton Nicole Casey, Kelly Kiara and Slinger, who also produced the track.
The accompanying music video was directed by Claire Arnold.
Ashnikko told Clara Amfo about the song, “A little dual singing vulnerability. I'm trying to be a little bit more honest and vulnerable in my music. Obviously, there are still like some, some Rangers. So slappers, but I'm trying to throw in some more songs in there because I feel like I'm evolving and growing as an artist and it feels like a natural progression for me. I feel very strong in exposing myself, like it's very scary though, I'm really nervous, at what the reaction will be, but I just have let go, I've let go. She's been birthed into the world.”
She continued, “Like Polly pessimism on something about like Polly Pockets and macabre Barbies, all very nostalgic of childhood. But I'm trying to be spooky and cute forever. Really that's my aesthetic.”
She added, “We all yeah that's just a little, My mom after she heard that song she was like, talking about. We've all had trauma, we're all working through it, I'm happy that I have a good outlet to talk about my feelings, every family is dysfunctional, if anyone is perfect they are lying to you.”

  • “Maggots” was written by Ashton Nicole Casey, Oscar Scheller and Slinger.
She said of the song, “There's never a person that cries when I get frustrated or mad, which is embarrassing in like a professional setting, it was it was my true emotional states, when I am really traumatized and very mentally unwell is rage and severe introspection. Maggots is me just being really angry at the world casting like a forcefield around myself yeah just mad at the world. I was feeling like the world was very parasitic that the music industry was very parasitic magazine and tapeworms burrowing into my, into my flesh, and I wrote a song about it.”
She continued, “I want to slam my head against the wall sometimes. Sometimes it sucks the fun out of music but sometimes a beautiful I've made lovely connections in this country but also sometimes it makes me want to March so hard that I get a bloody nose.”
