  • Yebba Releases Debut Album “Dawn”: Streaming

  • American singer-songwriter Abbey Smith, aka Yebba released her long-awaited debut album “Dawn” on September 10, 2021 via RCA Records.

The album comprises of 12-track, featuring guest appearances from A$AP Rocky and Smino.
Produced by Mark Ronson, Yebba, Thomas Brenneck, Ricky Damian and Kaytranada.
Before sign to RCA Records, she lost her mother, who died by suicide in 2017, and had a lot of time considering whether to release music as an artist herself.
Yebba said, “I made sure I did two-and-a-half years of self-homework, of digesting a trauma before I could make a commitment to an entire company.” The album is named after her late mother.
The album features music that influenced her like R&B, Jazz, pop and soul music.
She recorded the project at Electric Lady Studios in New York with Mark Ronson. The album was designed to signify an end and a beginning.
Initially, she planned to release the album on her mother's birthday June 27, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, the release date was set to September 10th.
She said “I feel like I've completed something and tried to honor (my mom) in the best way I knew how, and now I can be 26. And in spite of all the selfishness, I feel like God has given me more imagination, different pathways of melody, just more interesting symbolism than before. And just a lot less pressure. I'm just excited to keep making music.”
  • She told BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo, “Everything was triggered when I was hurting. So I really could not afford to like do much co-writing and and be around other people, it wasn't a very collaborative process I was very isolated and then really really good people that just made a safe space for me to be able to process things and work through stuff all just ended up being a part of kind of a team of people that made these ideas come to life, like Mark Ronson. But it was an exhausting experience. And it was the most necessary thing. I think I've ever gone through in my life. I'm really glad that I made an album. I'm really glad that I just brought something to conclusion, follow through and finished it.”
