Marieme Drops New Music Video for “Freedom”
- New York/Los Angeles based R&B singer-songwriter Marieme released the second single of 2020 called “Freedom” following “A Change Is Gonna Come” on October 28th.
It was written by Marieme and Davy Nathan. Produced by Davy Nathan and Theron "Neffu" Feemster.
Marieme said of the song, “This song means so much to me, I feel like it's for the ancestors 🙏🏿” Marieme Diop (her real name) was born Nouakchott, Mauritania, Africa. When she was six months old, war between Mauritania and Senegal forcing her family to escape Africa. She lived with her aunt in Senegal, while her parents moved to New York. The family reunited five years later in New York.
On November 12th, she dropped a new music video for the song. The video was directed by Dave Dorsey.
She said of the video, “'Freedom' is infinite, it has no bounds. It's everything and nothing, it just is! This video's for everyone but I wanted to make a powerful piece of art to help liberate the black community further, because our trauma is still prevalent and it's important to have reminders of who we really are and the power we came from!”
- She continued, “This music is more important now than ever, people need to know that they have the power! This is the time where we shift the energy of the world, to create a better world. With everything going on from the protests to the elections, people are beginning to mobilize and be motivated, they're beginning to understand where the power lies, it lies with the people! We are the people! We're organizing in the name of all the people that have been taken from us.”
