Joe Barksdale Releases New EP “Sincerely”: Streaming
- Austin-based former NFL player and singer-songwriter Joe Barksdale released his sophomore EP “Sincerely” on September 4th.
The EP is on extension of his debut EP “Electric Soul” released in 2019.
The EP was preceded by two singles “Black Majik” and “Moonbeam”. Joe Barksdale said of “Black Majik”, “We all have different temptations and vices we struggle with. Sometimes we can overcome the temptation, and other times we cannot. This is just an honest song about the mysterious relationship we have with temptation and the almost magical elements they have as well.”, And he said of “Moonbeam“, “As far as 'Moonbeam' is concerned, that song was special from the day I wrote it, because that's when I decided to retire. I was really proud of it. I thought it had substance. I knew it wasn't perfect, but it was the first time I felt like, 'Okay, I'm really ready to do this.”
The EP contains 5-track and influenced from '70s rock and soul music like Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye. “My music is an open letter to everybody. My art is my way of processing everything: trauma, joy, pain, loss, gain. That's why I named it Sincerely,” Joe Barksdale explained. “Growing up the way I did presented its own challenges and difficulties. I didn't really have anyone like me. I make this stuff for the people like me. If you've experienced life, you'll identify with at least one of my songs.”
