Maris Returns With New Song “Elephant Skeleton”
- Missoula alt-pop singer-songwriter Maris is back. She released a new song “Elephant Skeleton” on June 26th. It is her first single since 2019 “White Knuckles”.
The track was written and produced by Maris. The accompanying music video was cow-created by Erica Palmieri.
She wrote the song during quarantine. “This is the first song where I've really pushed myself production-wise, and I'm so proud that the whole thing basically came from my laptop,” Maris said of the song. “Listening to it, and seeing other people's reactions has made all the dances and parties I missed in high school to instead be crouched over my laptop on GarageBand worth it. For me, this song was about processing loss and isolation.”
She continued, “I wrote it after being socially isolated in my apartment when COVID first hit. I also lost a few relationships over the past couple months, that really meant a lot to me, so as I was producing the tune, rewriting, etc., I began to explore the iridescence in loneliness. Where I once thought it was a desaturated void, it became a glimmering and multifaceted beast. Elephant Skeleton is the first perspective in a world I'm currently exploring and writing about.”
- She explained about the video, “I bought 24 yards of green cloth, [my friend] Erica sent me all of the amazing, twinkly backgrounds to be keyed on the green, and I filmed the whole video on my kitchen floor. I’m so proud of the work we’ve put into it, and I feel so liberated, excited, and grateful to be finally sharing music again. So thankful for all the help from friends I’ve gotten along the way, too.”
