The Backfires Releases New Song “Dressed For A Funeral”
New York-based indie rock band The Backfires, consisting of Alex Gomez (vocals), Harry Ruprecht (guitar), Max Wanduragala (drums) and Matt Walter (bass), released a new song “Dressed For A Funeral” on September 5, 2024.
The song follows up “Brighter Lights”, which was released back in July.
The track features navigates themes of loss, introspection, and resignation along with its somber yet evocative title.
It was written by Alex Gomez and Henry Ruprecht. Produced by Ayad al Adhamy.
The band said of the song, “When you see someone after a relationship has ended there are all these nerves that come up. What to wear. What to say. We’ve always been inspired by the way The Cure or The Smiths wrote these happy sounding songs with somber lyrics. In Dressed For A Funeral we wanted to emulate that bitter-sweet feeling you get the first time you see someone after a split.”- The accompanying music video was directed by Sean Chow.
They said of the video, “Sometimes you can stumble across these everyday moments where you see someone you know nothing about and wonder “what if?” What if you go and say “hello”? And what if there is a connection and it works out? Or what if it doesn’t? Before you get the opportunity for love or heartbreak, there is first the necessary courage of putting yourself out there. That story of the moments before you say “hello” is what drives the video.” -
