  • Ada Lea Announces New EP “notes”, Shares New Song “come on, baby! be a good girl for the camera”

  • Montreal-based singer-songwriter Ada Lea has announced her new EP “notes” will be released on October 4, 2024.

The EP comprises a 6-track. All songs were contenders for her sophomore album “one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a garden”, which was released in 2021.
From the EP, she released a new song “come on, baby! be a good girl for the camera” on September 5, 2024.
The song is the third single off of the EP, following “hometown” and “heard you”.
It was written and produced by Alexandra Levy, with production by Marshall Vore.

Ada Lea said of the song, “I wrote this song while on a very challenging tour that took everything out of me. Over the years, I've developed a suspicion that your skin must be made of macho steel to 'make it' in the industry — you've gotta be able to suck it up, put a nice smile on your face, and do a little dance with a twinkle in your eye. The chorus runs with that belief, in a cheeky, noncommittal and playful way.”
  • The accompanying music video was co-directed by Lawrence Fafard and Alexandra Levy.

Ada Lea said of the video, “I've been a fan of Lawrence's photography for quite some time now. I am in awe of their visual eye and how they combine physical materials to create a textured image. 'Have you ever made a music video before?' I messaged them one day. Their answer was, as I would have hoped, 'No, but I'd love to try!' We had two weeks to prepare. The next day, Lawrence called me up with a revelation: 'I could approach this video as a combination of beautiful shots'. It was an eye-opening perspective for me, too—to remember that video, at its core, could be broken down simply, into a series of striking images. From there, things moved quickly and everything fell into place. Lolly Poppers was the natural star shining brightly in the sky, and the fact that we created it together, with such a small group and extremely limited resources, gives me goosebumps. It feels really special, and iconic.”

  • She said of the EP, “The songs found in the notes EP were all contenders for my second record one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a garden. Now that I've recorded three records and have released two, I've come to realise that my writing process requires that I write a bunch. Writing forty songs within a concept when I know I'll only use ten allows me to discover a clearer vision of the kind of world I'm wanting to create for the music. I can't tell what is missing until I've already written it. It's like when Virgina Woolf said 'a light here required a shadow there.' One idea leads to another, which yields unexpected songs. Obviously, while it's happening it's a very ugly and messy process (voice memos, crying, scraps of paper everywhere, an excruciatingly long and meandering soundcloud playlist—just look away, I'm hideous!) so I only see this pattern once the album is finished and there's some distance. The discarded songs become 'in-between' songs (songs that got me to write song B when I thought I could do with song A). Despite not making the final album cut, these six songs are their own special entities.”
