British singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan premiered a new version of “Sober” on BBC Radio 2 with Scott Mills.
This time, she teamed up with British singer-songwriter Robbie Williams on the track.
The original version of the song was released from her sixth studio album “Choices” in 2021.
The track was written by Joseph Hammill, and Lucy Spraggan. Produced by Alex Beitzke.
At that time, Lucy Spraggan wrote the song with her decision to give up alcohol.
Lucy Spraggan said of the song, “I wrote 'Sober' about a week after I stopped drinking. I wanted to write a song that I could listen back to, whether that was in a month, six months or years, to remind me why I had made the decision to be sober.”- She continued, “I never anticipated that nearly 5 years after I'd be releasing it as a duet with an all round inspiration of mine, both personally and professionally, Robbie Williams.”
She said, “This song and it's music video was originally released in 2021 and the comments on Youtube are from a community of people that resonate with the lyrics about why I needed to be sober. To know that Robbie Williams resonates with the song enough to sing it with me is an unbelievable feeling, not only as a song-writer but as a person that has struggled with substance abuse.”
She added, “This really is the highlight of my career so far and I am so thankful for all of the places that my sobriety has taken me.” -
Robbie Williams said, “I've been a fan of Lucy's since I first heard her on X Factor in 2013. That year I mentored on the show, but sadly we never got to meet. I loved 'Sober' the first time I heard it, and I've really enjoyed working with Lucy on this new version of the song.” - source : BBC Radio 2
