Swedish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentist, Gregory Hoepffner's new project G.H.Francis released a debut song “The Only Queer In The Van” on April 26, 2024.
The song is the first single off of his upcoming debut EP “Why Does Anyone?”, which is set be released on June 14, 2024.
The track describes a difficult coming-out while touring in a rock band with an effervescent guitar driven track, with buoyant hooks.
The track was written and produced by Gregory Hoepffner, with production by Svenska Grammofonstudion.
Gregory Hoepffner said of the song, “The story behind that line - 18 years ago, I did something stupid on stage : I deliberately smashed my bass into my head. I had just joined my favorite hardcore band a few months prior, and my new bandmates had been incredibly welcoming. I had never considered coming out at that time, but hanging out with them in the backstage of that festival, I thought « oh maybe this is it ». And then the fear of putting a stop to this joyride creeped in. What if I misunderstood ? What if I trigger another « abandon » situation by just being honest ? I had so much anger when we went on stage, I wanted to beat myself up for being such a coward. Blood everywhere on the ground, within seconds. The adrenaline comes down and you realize you went too far. You wanted to act tough and impress everyone, because you're too young, too shy, and you're gay. All this could have been avoided with a discussion, the story would have been very different. Let this be a reminder that an act of violence only leaves space for ridicule.
