American singer-songwriter Kat Cunning released a new song “Heart of Gold” on March 14, 2024.
The song is the second single as an independent artist, following the release of “Bedroom Angel” ;ast November.
The track was written by Katrina R Cunningham, Ryan Daniel Hughes, and Tracy Le. Produced by Ryan Hughes.
The accompanying music video was co-directed by Baylie Olsen and McCall Olsen.
Kat Cunning comments about the video, “The video is intended to be watched in a context where you can really watch- like you would a dance or performance art piece.”
Kat Cunning said of the song, “In a time of international contention, violence and division, I decided to share Heart of Gold to reflect the capacity for a balance of hope, forgiveness and self-preservation in us all. Even in our hardest moments, whether we are facing our own imperfect hearts, externalizing blame, or losing sight of ourselves all together, we are all here doing our best to survive at least, and be kind at most.”- Kat Cunning shared on social media, “When it was mine, it helped me move through the lowest point in my life. The mantra 'I wanna believe in your heart of gold, but I gotta be leavin ya' is about pulling yourself away from unhealthy attachments and addictions, ON YOUR TERMS, no matter how painful.”
They continued, “Whether it's your girlfriend who doesn't treat you right or your phone ur stuck on or your parents who don't accept you for who you are or a more literal substance, I hope this song helps you honor your needs and voice and drive you to draw boundaries with love from the dynamics that are harmful for you.” -
They added, “But mostly, I want to thank you for receiving me as ur dad/heartthrob who is 'confident' but also allowing me to share my more vulnerable less confident moments with you.”
