Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy released a new song “Lucky” on February 16, 2024.
The song is the first single of 2024, following the 2023 singles “Sunday” and “Two Hearts”.
He wrote the song with producer Carey Willetts, as with the previous single “Two Hearts”.
Dermot Kennedy said, “I hope you can feel how much this one means to me. Some of my favourite lyrics I've written. If you're lucky enough to feel love, don't ever take it for granted, and take care of it.”
He sings, “Let me tell you bout a good soul / How my heart skipped, how I could have died that summer / Love can leave you down a dirt road, till you curse it, still your God wouldn't pull up / Don't we know that nothing's perfect, we accept it, love is flawed just like all us / Every little thing the sun shows, well it's worth it, all the scars that you suffered / If you're so lucky”.
Dermot Kennedy shared on social media about the song, reflecting on his 2016 song “After Rain”, accompanied by a photo of a starry sky and trees, “I took this picture of the trees outside my house tonight while I was listening to a song I have coming out soon, and it kinda clicked in my head, that I think this song is the After Rain of this next chapter. It has that same feeling I had then, of being so proud of something, and feeling like it's the beginning of something very special.
