  • Softcult Releases New Song “Shortest Fuse”

  • Canadian grunge duo Softcult, consisting of twin siblings Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn, released a new song “Shortest Fuse” on January 30, 2024.

The song is the third single, following “Heaven” and “Haunt You Still” after the release of the 2023 EP “See You In The Dark”.
It was written by Mercedes Arn-Horn, and Phoenix Arn-Horn who also produced the track.
The accompanying music video was directed by Mercedes Arn-Horn.
“Capitalism seems to be designed to keep underprivileged people toiling in a never ending cycle of debt and poverty where their labor is underpaid in order to profit their employers,” the duo said of the inspiration behind the song. “The benefits of capitalism are rarely equally distributed, accruing wealth to a very small percentage of the population.”
They continued, “Built on the notion of greed, benefitting only by paying workers less than what their labor is worth, it's difficult to not become disenfranchised with capitalism when you exist in this reality and see no end in sight. We can't become complicit in a system that is designed to keep us down.”
