Jorja Smith Covers East 17's “Stay Another Day”
British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith released a cover of British boy band East 17's “Stay Another Day” on December 13, 2023 via Amazon Music for Christmas.
The original version of the song was released by East 17 as the single from their second album “Steam” in 1994.
It is their only number-one song on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the Christmas number one of 1994.
Then the song has become an evergreen festive staple despite the lyrics not being festive at all.
The track was written by Tony Mortimer, Rob Kean, and Dominic Hawken.
Jorja Smith said of the song, “I had a lot of fun putting my own unique spin on this timeless Christmas classic... Hope you all enjoy it!”- The accompanying animated music video was directed by Jack Brown.
Jack Brown said of the video, “'Stay Another Day' has been totally transformed by Jorja's take and I think the lyrics have a whole new sense of meaning. For the music video I wanted it to have a lovely handmade, classical look, while also being unexpected and giving the viewer the feeling of being a ghost of the Christmas past, floating through the video.” -
