Dua Lipa Releases New Song “Houdini”
British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa released a new song “Houdini” on November 9, 2023.
The song is the follow-up to "Dance the Night", which was released from the motion picture Barbie soundtrack “Barbie: The Album” back in May.
Also, the song is the first single off of her upcoming third studio album, which is expected to be released in 2024.
On the track, she worked with Australian psychedelic music project Tame Impala's Kevin Parker, who produced and co-wrote the song, as well as performed drums, guitar, Keyboards, percussion, and bass.
The accompanying music video was directed by Manu Cossu.
“This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom,” Dua Lipa said of the song in a statement. “‘Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”- She added, “The lyrics are a bit cheeky, but there is a real underlying message of understanding yourself deeply and having no guilt about knowing your self-worth. Sometimes you just have to pull a Houdini and leave a situation that’s no longer serving you.”
The new album is fir first body of work in four years since the 2020 album “Future Nostalgia”.
About the new album, Dua Lipa told Variety magazine, “It’s taken a complete turn as I’ve carried on working, and I really feel now that it’s starting to sound cohesive. So I’m going to keep writing in the early months of the new year and see where that takes me. The album is different - it’s still pop but it’s different sonically, and there’s more of a lyrical theme. If I told you the title, everything would make sense — but I think we’ll just have to wait.” - source : Apple Music
