Hozier Releases New Song “Unknown / Nth”
Irish singer-songwriter Hozier released a new song “Unknown / Nth” on June 23, 2023.
The song is the fourth single off of his upcoming third studio album “Unreal Unearth”, which is set to be released on August 18, 2023.
The track was written and produced by Andrew Hozier-Byrne with production by Sean Cook.
He teased the song on TikTok earlier this month.
Hozier said of the song, “The title comes from the expression of an unknown but large number, i.e. ‘Nth.’ The song reflects on having your heartbroken by someone you trusted. You think you learned, and it happens again. It also recalls ‘Ninth’ or the 9th circle of treachery. The song throws away the old premise of angelhood. None of us are angels. We are all going to break someone else’s heart or hurt another person. Musically, there was a minimalist approach. In that cold empty place, something else happened.”- Hozier shared on social media, “This is just a small note to say that the song 'Unknown / Nth', We just taken from the ninth circle on the album. It's out today. And thank you for your initial responses to this song. It started out, it's just a sketch. Just a little video of me playing an idea which I uploaded to TikTok. And I think yeah your collective response put a lot of wind in the sales of that song as it were and I'm really, really happy to share it early. And I have a real soft spot for this song. So it's great to just be able to get the actual official track out and let you hear it. So thank you as always for your support and your encouragement. I hope you enjoy it.”
The new album comprises 16-track, produced by Hozier, Jennifer Decilveo, Chakra, Bekon, Pete G, and Sergiu Gherman.
It was inspired by Dante's Inferno, which he began reading at the time, framing the album around Dante's concept of the nine circles of Hell. -
