Jesy Nelson Returns With New Song “Bad Thing”
Former Little Mix and British singer-songwriter Jesy Nelson returned with a new song “Bad Thing” on April 14, 2023.
It is her first music in two years since the 2021 debut song "Boyz" featuring American rapper Nicki Minaj.
The track was written by Jesy Nelson, Hanni Ibrahim, Patrick Jordan-Patrikios, Tayla Parx, Em Walcott, and Victor Franco. Produced by Loosechange.
The accompanying music video was directed by Charlie Sarsfield.
“I don't feel like anyone's heard this side of me before, it's a real, raw, honest, vulnerable side to me,” Jesy Nelson said of the song. “I honestly love being independent. I feel so free. I'm truly being authentically myself. Write your own rules, take control and always speak your truth.”
- The video sets in the 60s, and draws the true reality of domestic abuse.
Jesy Nelson explained about the video, “I just feel like so many women in my life have been through horrific experiences like this and I just really wanted to raise awareness about it. I think it's such an important topic that hardly anyone ever speaks about. There's so many people that go through it and they're too scared to talk about it and so I just think it's really important.”
Director Charlie Sarsfield said, “The storyline is centred around a topic that was close to Jesy's heart and reflects some of my own experiences growing up too. We both felt this story suited the aesthetics of the 60s. We leaned into films like 'Legend' for inspiration and really drew from that era in terms of styling and art. I was focused on creating cinematic scenes that you wouldn't normally find in a music video to really immerse viewers and transport them to London's East End in the late 60s. It was a pleasure to work closely with Jesy on this.”
