Chappell Roan Drops New Music Video for “Casual”
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Chappell Roan has dropped a new music video for “Casual” directed by Hadley Hillel.
The song was released last October. It was written by Daniel Nigro, Morgan St. Jean, and Chappell Roan. Produced by Dan Nigro, and Ryan Linvill.
Chappell Roan shared on social media, “I get pissed every single time I sing this song. I know most of you can relate to the feeling of thinking a relationship is deeper than it really is. This song is for the heartbroken and angry ponies 🦋”
Chappell Roan told Rolling Stone that the song was inspired by a long-distance relationship and its breakup during the pandemic.
She said, “I was pretty devastated. I was talking to a friend that was with them the day that they ended things with me, and they had told my friend it was nothing and was just casual. And in my head I was like, 'What the fuck do you mean it was casual? We were telling secrets and talking literally every day!'”
She continued, “I had to re-do this song several time because I was not being sad enough. I was not being relatable enough. I've never recorded a song like that. To get in that headspace was really hurtful.”
