Rose Gray Premieres New Song “Ecstasy” on BBC Radio 1
East London-based singer-songwriter Rose Gray premiered a new song “Ecstasy” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song is featured on her new EP “Higher Than the Sun”.
She worked with British DJ Alex Metric on the track.
Rose Gray told Clara Amfo about the song, “I have written quite a few tunes with ecstasy as the chorus. And this one sort of made the carts. I wrote with a frequent collaborator called Alex Metric, who I absolutely adore. Sick. And we kind of like when we were writing it. We were like this kind of feels like if Kate Bush or a dance record. I think this might be what it was. And my EP is out tonight as well and it's the lead the lead track on the EP.”
The accompanying music video was directed by Rauri Cantelo.
Also she shared on social media, “I chose xtsy as a single because of how incredible the vibes where when I started playing it live. so ty for making this single come to life. club kids and og 90’s ravers this anthem is for uuuu!!!!!”
- The EP comprises 4-track, produced by Alex Metric, Ghost Culture and Nick Sylvester.
It was released on February 1, 2023.
“I wrote this EP over summer 2022,” Rose Gray said of the EP. “I think the London heatwave, festivals, and nightlife blossoming has something to do with this EP feeling so free and intoxicating. There’s rave, disco and techno pulsating through ‘Higher Than The Sun’.”
Rose Gray explained track-by-track for the EP.
“Sun Comes Up”
“It’s a little moody, a little ethereal, with a heavy breakbeat and live strings. It’s a side of what I do which I’m excited to showcase on this EP. I wrote this on an emo day. I can’t always be banging out 130bmp+s – sometimes I’m just sad.”
”‘Promise Me’ is “about giving someone one more chance. I think you can hear the inner dilemma I’m having with myself. The production is my dream soundscape ravey anthemic bliss. A little nod to my Queen Donna Summers. Co-produced by Nick Sylvester (aka godmode) the king of cool LA house records. It’s a little more leftfield than some of my other records but a world in which I think is important to my project.”
“Prettier Than You”
“‘Prettier Than You’ is about a beautiful figurative stranger. I wrote the song in Bristol, I was sitting in the studio nursing a broken heart. I was on dating apps at the time and couldn’t quite believe how many beautiful people there were on them. The words for this song just sort of blurted out like an unconscious stream on the mic. There’s an ethereal energy with a little New Order and Ray Of Light sprinkle. I love it. It spreads a little light on heartbreak for there are many more prettier fish in the sea. I’ve been waiting a hot minute to release this tune and I’m excited to let her go…”
