Puma June Releases New Song “Holy”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Shanti Abbott, aka Puma June released a new song “Holy” on January 11, 2023.
The song is the second single, following the debut song “Lost Years” released last November.
It was written and produced by Shanti Abbott and co-produced by Jojo Worthington.
“As women, we internalize a societal expectation that we should be humble and passive, as if there is something wrong with speaking about ourselves with pride and confidence. After you experience something traumatic, especially by the hands of those you love, it can be hard to re-discover your self-love and value,” Puma June explained. “I wanted to write a song that created space for conversations about abusive relationships and sexual assault in a raw, honest way, but framed within the context of recognizing one's worth, beauty and power after all the pain. This song amplified my realization that I no longer have to hide my pride, worth, value, or 'Holiness.' Women are sacred.”
- She continued, “Ultimately, this song is an anthem to women and non-binary people searching for self-love. I hope that those who are struggling to see that worth within themselves hear 'Holy' and feel their power and value. Face your past and know that there is a community of people behind you, supporting you and lifting you up.”
