Weezer Releases New EP “SZNZ: Winter”: Streaming
American rock band Weezer, consisting of Rivers Cuomo (vocals/guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (guitar) and Scott Shriner (bass), released the final chapter of their “SZNZ” EP series “SZNZ: Winter” along with a new music video for “Dark Enough to See the Stars” on December 21, 2022 via Crush Music/Atlantic Records.
The SZNZ series began as “SZNZ: Spring” back in March. Since then, the band has released “SZNZ: Summer” and “SZNZ: Autumn”.
The band said of the EP when starting the project, “This year we're releasing four EPs each inspired by magic, Pagan myths, religious rituals, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Shakespeare and more (so much more). Each one will take you on an enchanting journey.”
The new EP conceptually framed around its titular season like its three previous EPs.
The EP comprises 7-track, written by Rivers Cuomo and produced by James Flannigan.
The accompanying video was directed by Peter Quinn.
Also, the band was meant to promote the series with a five-week Broadway residency, but that was cancelled earlier this year due to low ticket sales.
- Rivers Cuomo told Variety about the EP, “It was a pretty superficial connection in the beginning, but sometimes that inspires me. I had four different dropbox folders of songs and each had their own musical style, and I wasn’t sure which one to proceed with for the next Weezer album. And then I just thought, well, why don’t we make all four at once? And then one day it just struck me, like, what can I connect it to? What is there four of? Oh, there’s four seasons. Oh, so we could make four seasons. And then I remembered Vivaldi has a very famous suite called “The Four Seasons.” So I thought on each each of these albums we can kind of interpolate some of Vivaldi’s music.”
