  • Souls Extolled Announces New Album “MMXXII”, Shares New Song “Down To Go”

  • Austin-based rock band Souls Extolled, consisting of JP Ortiz (bass), Joe Valadez (drums) and Zach Black (guitar/vocals), announced their third studio album “MMXXII” would be released on December 31, 2022.

The name of the album is this year 2022 in roman numerals and named such to reflect the intention to release a new song every month in 2022. The band has released 11 of the 12 songs, so far.
From the album, the band released the final promotional single “Down To Go” on December 2, 2022.
It was written by JP Ortiz, Joe Valadez and Zach Black, with production by Omar Vallejo.
Zach Black said of the song, “It is about the willingness to embrace the hard truths of life as well as new points of view and experiences that may be discomforting, difficult, or perilous. It does this through a story where you meet a dark figure that's beckoning you into these new ideas or experiences, and through that willingness to embrace those things, finding essential truths about life. There's definitely something in the staccato parts of the track reminiscent of Coheed and Cambria, or CKY, with weird sort of Jim Morrison type vocals. And then it gets experimental with the quickened guitar breakdowns, followed by the super psychedelic chorus with Robert Plant inspired vocals.”
  • The new album catalogs their growth and self-exploration and comprises 12-track, produced by Omar Vallejo. The band recorded the album at 512 Studios in South Austin.
The band said of the album, “To us, without the meaning of these songs they're just a bunch of sounds. The music that inspired us is not only great sounds, but meanings that inspire us, challenge us, and make us think.”
