  • Bruce Springsteen Covers Ben E. King's “Don't Play That Song”

  • American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen released a cover of Ben E. King's “Don't Play That Song” along with a music video on October 28, 2022.

The song is the third single off of his upcoming twenty-first studio album “Only the Strong Survive”, following “Nightshift” and “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)”.
The original version of the song was released by American soul singer Ben E. King from his third album “Don't Play That Song!” in 1962.
The track was written by Ahmet Ertegun and Betty Nelson, the wife of Ben E. King.
Also, American singer-songwriter Aretha Franklin covered the song for her nineteenth studio album “Spirit in the Dark” in 1970.
The song is accompanied by the Thom Zimny-directed music video.
The new album is set to be released on November 11, 2022 via Columbia Records.
The album is a cover album of R&B and soul songs, and comprises 15-track.
“I spent my working life with my voice at the service of my songs — confined by my arrangements, by my melodies, by my compositions, by my constructions,” Bruce Springsteen said of the album. “My voice always came second, third or fourth to the expression of those elements. But this time, I decided to do something I had never done before: make some music that is centered around singing, around challenging my voice. Now in my own memoir, I give my voice a little short shrift by saying I didn't think I had much of one. But once I started on this project, after listening to some of the things we cut, I thought, 'My voice is badass! I'm 73 years old, I'm kicking ass. I'm a good old man!'”
