In earlier August, Scottish singer-songwriter Katie Gregson-MacLeod posted a minute-long chorus of her unreleased song called “complex” to TikTok.
She wrote the song three days before putting it online and had no plans to release it.
But the song became the viral track quickly and racked up over 7.2 million views on TikTok.
It is similar to Olivia Rodrigo's “Drivers License” sensation. Then, she signed a deal with the British arm of Columbia Records.
On August 26th, she officially released the full song as entitled “complex (demo)”.
The track will appear on her upcoming EP, which is expected to be released in February 2023.
She told NYLON why she released the song as a demo, “This version had to come out. This super raw, very much untouched, bit of mixing [version], because I've been on TikTok and I've seen it happen a thousand of times with versions of songs. People on TikTok can be very purest. [They] really want it to be exactly how they heard it in the video. Both for them, and for myself, I wanted to do a raw moment before releasing a version with more arrangement and strings.”- Background photo by Jaime Molina
