The Welcome Wagon Announces New Album “Esther”, Shares new Song “Isaiah, California”
- Brooklyn-based alt-folk duo The Welcome Wagon, consisting of Vito Aiuto and Monique Aiuto, announced their fourth studio album “Esther” would be released on November 4, 2022 via Asthmatic Kitty Records.
It is their first album in five yers since the 2017 album “Light up the Stairs”.
The album was born out of this wellspring of creativity and homecoming, exploring the profound knowing and equally profound mystery in both family and faith.
Vito Aiuto said, “It became apparent to us that so many of these songs were about coming home, or leaving home, or reckoning with the homes we grew up in. Plus we wrote them in our home”.
Monique Aiuto continued, “Making a home in this world is one of the hardest and most beautiful things any of us ever do. Our music helps us to do that—to make a home, together with our family and friends—and we hope that somehow our songs might help others to make a home wherever they are, too.”
From the album, the duo the lead single called “Isaiah, California” on September 7, 2022.
- The duo shared on social media, “Esther is named for Monique's grandmother, and her spirit of faith and love pervades this album. Her voice is on the album, too. From 1992-1995 Esther sent cassette tape after cassette tape of her reading the Bible to Monique so that she might listen to them while she (Monique) was painting in her studio at the Cooper Union. We're glad to share some of these special recordings with the world.”
