Lime Cordiale and Idris Elba Debut New Music Video for “What's Not To Like”
Back in September Australian pop-rock duo Lime Cordiale, consisting of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach, announced their collaborative EP “Cordi Elba” with British actor Idris Elba would be released on January 14. 2022.
From the EP, the duo dropped a new music video for “What's Not To Like” on December 16, 2021.
The song was released as the second single from the EP in November, following “Apple Crumble”.
It was written by Louis Leimbach, Oli Leimbach, Idris Elba and Dave K. Haddad.
The video was directed by Ken Weston.
Oli Leimbach said of the video, “The music video was really driven by Idris. Louis and I suggested an animated clip, seeing as we’re on the other side of the world and Idris doesn’t exactly have the most free schedule, but Idris pushed us to find a green screen studio. The song about the different versions of ourselves so Idris talked us through this concept of his”.
Louis Leimbach added, “We received Idris’ footage first and then we had to somehow match his performance! God, he just looks so good on the screen! How could we possibly look that good!”- Oli Leimbach said of the song, “I had this song title written down in my notes for a lyric. It was a concept we’d been toying with for a while but Idris related to it and wrote these verses in the room with us. He told us about an industry party the night before, about people looking over his shoulder searching for someone more important to talk to until they worked out they WERE talking to someone important...”
Louis Leimbach added, “That’s where the song started but we’re really just taking the piss out of ourselves, something that we all loved doing in these studio sessions. It’s that Aussie/English connection...”
Idris Elba said, “It’s a song about finding who you really are and not chasing who you think people want you to be. It is a driver’s seat singer classic.”
“We wrote everything together,” Oli Leimbach said in a statement. “We were all writing lyrics – it wasn’t our music or his music, it was smack bang down the middle with every lyric.”
“I wanted to collaborate,” Idris Elba said of the new album. “We agreed about the vibe and the song was there. They were really open to ideas; it was an opportunity for me to write songs I normally wouldn’t write. Ultimately, this is a step into a new universe musically for me.” - source : Apple Music
