Saweetie Releases New Song “Icy Chain”, Performs “Tap In / Best Friend” on Saturday Night Live
American rapper Saweetie appeared on Saturday Night Live to perform a new song “Icy Chain” and a medley “Tap In / Best Friend”.
Ahead of her debut on Saturday Night Live, she released “Icy Chain” on November 19th from her upcoming debut album “Pretty Bitch Music”.
She worked with producer Dr. Luke on the track, which is their third collaboration following “Best Friend” and “Tap In”.
“When I was put in the position to work with [Dr. Luke], it was a bundle deal,” Saweetie said of the work with Dr. Luke. “I had those songs for over two years. So what do you think? Do I compromise my artistry, do I keep them in the vault, or do I release them?”
It was written by lil aaron, Rocco Did It Again!, SupaKaine, Dr. Luke and Saweetie.
The debut album is scheduled to be released in 2022 via Warner Records. It was originally due to be released on June 25, 2021. However, she delayed the album in order to reconstruct some songs.
She said of the album, “This album needs to have feelings, it needs to have soul, it needs to have spirit. And I have a lot of room for improvement, so I'm gonna work on that.”- zYQ1HUEE6q8

“Tap In” was released in 2020. The song sampled Too $hort's 2006 song “Blow the Whistle”
She explained of samples, “My specialty is able to have an ear for a beat that would sound good if I flipped it or if I sampled it. Hip-hop is built on samples”
“Best Friend” was released back in January. She teamed up with American rapper Doja Cat on the track. It marks the first collaboration between Saweetie and Doja Cat.
But, the song was released prematurely on streaming platforms by Warner Records on last December. She stated, “I am extremely disappointed in my label WBR for prematurely releasing a single I was so excited about. I feel disrespected. I'm hands on with ALL of my creative & had such a dope rollout for 'best friends'. The thirst for clout & $ is real & it overrides the artists' art.”-
