  • World Surf League: Billabong Pro Tahiti Day 2 Starts Round 3 at Teahupo'o in Tahiti

  • Billabong Pro Tahiti Day 2 ran Round 3 at Teahupo'o in Tahiti in four-to-five foot waves on August 12. The wave condition is better than yesterday, all competitors tried to make tube sections.

    Especially, the reigning World Champion John John Florence (HAW) showcased 9.00 and 9.70 points ride in Heat 7, others, rookie Connor O'Leary (AUS) earned 9.33 points, Bede Durbidge (AUS) got 9.73 points, Julian Wilson (AUS) received 9.13 points and Joan Duru (FRA) earned 9.17 points. But despite getting highest score of the day, Bede Durbidge was eliminated by 2014's World Champion Gabriel Medina (BRA).
    Also, 2015's World Champion Adriano De Souza (BRA), 2012's World Champion Joel Parkinson (AUS) and 3-time World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) were defeated.

    John John Florence said;
    “That was a lot of fun. It’s a pretty scary wave but the reward is just so good. The view from inside the barrel is amazing and the way it sucks you in and spits you out is pretty cool.”

    Connor O'Leary said;
    “Jeremy [Flores] is one of the best out here. To see his Round 2 performance was amazing and to have a heat against him was great. That was really fun and I’m happy to make it through and crack Round 3. It’s such a perfect wave and I’m looking forward to having a few more heats out there.”

    Julian Wilson said;
    “You have no control over your opponents so you just have to focus on yourself and try to make good decisions. I had a poor start to that heat but I was able to shake that off and search a really good second half of the heat. It’s turned on for us which is amazing and it’s such a reward to be still in the competition. Italo [Ferreira] is such a good competitor so I knew it would be a tough heat.”

    Joan Duru said;
    “I’m so lucky and thanks to all my friends and family I’m in a good place and so happy. I got lucky that the good waves came to me and the ocean was with me today.”
